The Organisation
Established in April 2003 and registered under the Indian Trust Act, the Cuttack Diabetes Research Foundation (CDRF) is a leading charitable institution dedicated to mitigating the escalating burden of diabetes in Odisha.
Our statutory recognition under Section 12A(b) and Section 80G of the Income Tax Act reinforces our institutional capacity to secure resources and broaden the reach of our evidence-based healthcare, awareness, and research initiatives across the state.
Diabetes in Odisha
Odisha faces a significant and growing challenge from Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), with diabetes and its complications contributing substantially to morbidity and mortality.
- Elevated Prevalence: The overall prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) among adults in Odisha has been estimated to be significantly high, with some studies indicating rates higher than previous national averages
- Rural Disparity: A major hurdle is the delivery of consistent care to rural populations, who face barriers of limited access to specialist care, delayed diagnosis, and poor glycemic control. Poor awareness and low treatment adherence are common issues.
- Complication Hotspot: Several regions in Odisha have been identified as a hotspot for related complications, such as Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and Diabetic Foot problems, which dramatically increase patient suffering and economic burden.
This critical gap between the need for comprehensive diabetes care and its accessibility, especially for the socio-economically disadvantaged, is the focal point of CDRF's operations.
Our Mission
To pursue excellence in diabetes care, prevention, education, and research—guided by dedication, compassion, and innovation. We strategically focus on four pillars to achieve impact:
- Deliver High-Quality, Accessible Care: Provide affordable, comprehensive clinical services, with a specific and sustained focus on the poor and underserved sections of society.
- Strategic Awareness and Prevention: Execute large-scale campaigns to create widespread awareness about diabetes, its risk factors (like obesity and hypertension), and the severe complications it can cause.
- Empowerment and Education: Equip patients, caregivers, and communities with essential knowledge and self-management resources to enable healthier, independent living.
- Research and Innovation: Conduct and support relevant clinical and community-based research to develop innovative, context-specific strategies for diabetes management and complication reduction in the region.
